Crossrail C510 Liverpool Street and Whitechapel Station Platform Tunnels

Southdowns was appointed to provide occupational dust specialist services by the Balfour Beatty BeMO Alpine Morgan Sindall Vinci Joint Venture ( BBMV JV) in 2014 to manage the contractor’s statutory requirements with respect to occupational exposure to airborne dust. Southdowns designed and managed a monitoring programme over a 3-year period for workers within the C510 tunnels. Workplace exposure levels of total inhalable dust, respirable dust and respirable quartz (crystalline silica) dust, were surveyed and compared with the Health and Safety Executive’s statutory Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs). Non-statutory limits provided by the Trades Union Congress ( TUC ) were also considered....

Turbine Blade Manufacturers, IoW

Southdowns’ was commissioned to design and execute specialist occupational noise and spatial dust surveys within its two main production halls, as part of its on-going commitment to the management of risk and occupational health and safety at its turbine manufacturing premises on the Isle of Wight. Real time measurements of PM10 respirable particulates, PM2. 5 particulates and PM1 concentrations were taken across the shop floor. Values were used to create a spatial distribution model of airborne particulates and were compared against exposure limits, allowing the client to assess the effectiveness of ventilation systems. Sample noise and dust exposures were obtained...
