Residential Development, Letchworth
Major residential development proposed for brownfield site adjacent to industrial operations
With the Government forging ahead with plans for new housing across the country, there is continued pressure to develop brownfield sites to meet its targets.

The development at Letchworth comprises 250 residential units on land surrounded by industrial premises including a chemical processing plant and an industrial laundry.
In accordance with Local Authority requirements, detailed noise surveys were undertaken to establish the content and variation in ambient noise levels. A calibrated computer model was developed for the site enabling the Noise Exposure Category boundaries to be derived.

Given the industrial nature of the ambient noise, both Leq and Lmax noise levels were considered and used to identify appropriate mitigation measures in the form of building layout and orientation, noise barriers and glazing specifications.
