Construction Noise Calculations and Commissioning Noise and Vibration Tests

Southdowns was initially appointed by the Costain O’Rourke Bachy Emcor JV to provide specialist input to the Section 61 consent process set-up by the project for Contract 105 – the refurbishment of the Barlow Shed and the construction of the new station extension. Extensive construction noise calculations were undertaken for construction works split into 6 monthly blocks taking into account the detailed phases and activity programme. Other complimentary studies were undertaken to investigate the effectiveness of innovative noise mitigation measures.

As part of the project sign-off, the main civil contractor was required to demonstrate compliance with project specific noise commitments. Southdowns were commissioned to investigate noise and vibration associated with the major building services equipment and plant rooms.

Surveys were undertaken both inside the station to establish compliance with contract specifications, and at numerous external positions to ensure that pre-agreed targets were achieved.
