Lewes Combined Sewer Outfall
Southdowns was appointed by Southern Water’s contractor BV Costain to advise on the calculation and control of construction noise impacts during major improvement works to combined sewer and stormwater infrastructure in Lewes town centre.
Six shaft sites were required around the town to support the progress of tunnel boring and to house ancillary equipment. Because of the close proximity of sensitive receptors including dwellings and non-residential facilities to the shafts, detailed baseline monitoring surveys and calculations of construction noise were undertaken for all principal activities, including pre-augering, shaft sinking, static plant and equipment, heavy plant and concrete pouring.
