Tottenham Court Road Station Upgrade

The redevelopment of Tottenham Court Road station includes an enlarged ticket hall six times the size of the current one, a 200 per cent increase in station capacity, new entrances, five new lifts to provide step-free access and additional escalators. Other benefits will increase safety and security, enhance accessibility and improve passenger information.

Southdowns provided technical support to the MDC during the detailed design stages on the aspects of groundborne noise and vibration associated with the demolition, construction and operation phases of the re-development.

Work included: the gathering of detailed baseline groundborne noise and vibration data in a number of commercial premises surrounding the site; calculation and assessment of potential groundborne noise and vibration magnitudes during the demolition and construction phases; preparation of draft Section 61 consent applications on sub-surface works; drafting of contract documentation relating to noise and vibration requirements and monitoring; representation at meetings with the client on behalf of the MDC.
